Uoto, Creator of Chi and The 100M, Announces Two New Manga Projects Back-to-Back
3-Line Summary
Uoto is taking on new creative territory with the back-to-back release of two new manga projects, Hallucination Meat and Test Taker/Cheaters.
Hallucination Meat will be written and illustrated by Uoto himself, with serialization planned for sometime in 2026. Test Taker/Cheaters, meanwhile, will feature Uoto as the original creator and Kyō Yoneshiro on art, with serialization planned for early 2027.
As an artist who has inspired so many people through Chi: Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite and The 100M, I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of philosophy and questions Uoto will explore through these two new stories.
Manga artist Uoto, known for Chi: Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite and The 100M, has announced two new manga projects back-to-back.
The first project is Hallucination Meat.
Uoto is handling both the art and story himself, and the manga is set to be serialized in Shogakukan’s manga magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits.
Uoto revealed the project on his X account on September 11, saying that while the exact start date has yet to be decided, it “looks like it’ll happen sometime this year.”
Then, just one day later on September 12, he revealed another new manga, Test Taker/Cheaters.
For this project, Uoto will handle the original story, while the artwork will be done by Kyō Yoneshiro, known for Kanono no Hate no Kanon and other works.
The manga will be serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon. The exact start date has yet to be decided, but Uoto said he expects it to begin in early 2027.
The two works are also interesting in the way Uoto is expanding his creative territory through two different approaches.
With Hallucination Meat, he is once again taking full control of the manga himself, while with Test Taker/Cheaters, he is focusing on the story as the original creator and collaborating with another artist.
Given that Uoto explored science, belief, and human determination in Chi: Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite, and delved into competition and human psychology in The 100M, there is still very little information about what themes and questions he will explore in these two new works.
For now, all that has been confirmed is that Hallucination Meat is targeting serialization sometime in 2026, while Test Taker/Cheaters is planned for early 2027.
The exact serialization dates and further details about both works will be revealed at a later date.
As an artist I personally really love, these new works make me even more curious about how Uoto will translate his own philosophies, ideas, and the world he inhabits into manga.
He’s an artist who has inspired me deeply through every work he’s made, so I can’t help but look forward to what he does next.
