The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 54th International Emmy Awards on September 23, 2026.
This year, a total of 64 programs from 22 countries were nominated across 16 categories, with Japan’s Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 receiving a nomination in the Short-Form Series category.
Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 is an anime project based on short manga created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the manga artist best known for Chainsaw Man and Look Back, between the ages of 17 and 26.
It is based on a total of eight stories collected in Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man: 17-21 and 22-26.
The production approach is also unique. Rather than having a single studio and director handle the entire project, six animation studios and seven directors divided the eight shorts among themselves.
ZEXCS, Lapin Track, GRAPH77, 100studio, Studio Kafka, and P.A.WORKS participated in the project, with different directors and production teams bringing Fujimoto’s early works to the screen in their own distinct ways.
The eight stories included are “Two Chickens in the Garden,” “Sasaki Stopped a Bullet,” “Love Is Blind,” “Shikaku,” “Mermaid Rhapsody,” “The Sickness Called Girl,” “Nayuta of the Prophecy,” and “Sisters.”
The series was released exclusively for worldwide streaming on Prime Video starting November 8, 2025.
This is not the first time the project has received attention on the international stage.
“Shikaku,” one of the included shorts, won the Audience Award in the Short Film Competition at the Bucheon International Animation Festival, while “Two Chickens in the Garden” was officially selected for the Midnight Short Film Competition at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
In this year’s International Emmy Awards Short-Form Series category, four works were nominated in total, including Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26, Belgium’s The Class of 2000, Brazil’s Jornada da Vida Rio Mekong, and Canada’s PeopleWatching Season 3.
The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards ceremony, which will take place in New York on November 23, 2026.
While the project has not won the award yet, its nomination is notable as a project in which different production teams reinterpreted Tatsuki Fujimoto’s early one-shot manga has made it beyond Japan and onto the shortlist of an international television awards ceremony.
