Top 5 Anime of Spring 2026 (Completely Subjective)

Nippon Sangoku
It was an anime I didn't really expect.
But after watching episode 1, my thoughts were completely reversed.
The anime's direction and animation were enough to draw people's curiosity,
and unlike an anime just meant to pass the time, I could feel the author's knowledge and wisdom.
It quoted many Eastern philosophies and quotes, including 'The Art of War'.
Although there were lukewarm parts in the middle section compared to the intensity of the beginning,
even considering that, it was an anime I could endure and watch until the end.
It is also an anime I look forward to for the next season.

Needy Girl Overdose
Honestly, judging by the key visual and the first episode, Needy Girl Overdose is the exact type of anime I usually avoid.
It had every single trope I disliked.
But I was completely wrong. This immediately jumped into my personal top tier.
Everything about it—the avant-garde direction, the art style, the storytelling—just perfectly clicked for me.
To be fair, episodes 1 to 3 felt like the creator was forcing their personal philosophy a bit too hard, so it didn't really resonate at first.
But after that? The plot and the underlying themes started to blend beautifully.
It's rare to see an anime like this nowadays.
It’s deeply experimental yet genuinely artistic.
The show touches on heavy religious themes that might be polarizing.
But for me, the religious subtext actually worked.
The parallels between Jesus and the main character, and Judas with the co-protagonist, were incredibly sharp.
If your worldview is rooted in faith, you absolutely need to experience this. I highly recommend it.

Witch Hat Atelier
If you loved the vibe of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, this one is a must-watch.
It’s quiet and peaceful,
but it hits incredibly hard when the big moments finally drop.
Some might find the pacing a bit slow, but that’s exactly what gives this show its depth.
Honestly, it’s refreshing to watch something that doesn't rely on constant, hyper-violent battle scenes.
On the surface, the art style and the story feel light and breezy.
But underneath, there’s a genuine mystery brewing.
We still have no answers from this season about the secrets the protagonist’s master is hiding,
or what the deal is with the antagonistic "Brimmed Cap" organization.
Personally, I ended up connecting the show’s themes with my own personal philosophy—
especially toward the end, when they touch on the infinite nature of magic.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2
Honestly, it’s your textbook battle shonen.
The whole "underdog with a hidden power" trope is something we've all seen a hundred times before.
But the animation quality is genuinely solid, and the show knows exactly how to hook you.
You know that specific feeling when the hype just perfectly builds up and delivers?
Yeah, this show nails that exact feeling.
Plus, it definitely doesn't hurt that the heroine is incredibly beautiful and charming. 🙂

Re:ZERO Season 4
There’s no denying that this show is a massive hit.
The hype is definitely real, and the storyline is genuinely gripping.
But honestly, if I said I never thought, "Is it really that good?", I’d be lying.
Yet, every single time, the show forces you to respect it.
The occasional gore, the unpredictable plot twists, and the creator’s absolute masterclass in writing leave you with no choice but to admire it.
It is miles ahead of your generic, run-of-the-mill isekai. Episode 11 even scored a near-perfect 9.9 rating,
so there’s really no excuse to skip it.
If you have any biases against the genre, at least finish Season 1 before you make up your mind. I highly recommend giving it a shot.
